Life will never be the same for anyone who has survived a stroke; but successful survivors are those who can accept the reality of their new situations with a positive attitude. As such they are able to try to live each day productively, with as much creativity and fulfilment as possible within the new boundaries imposed by stroke.
And remember, ARNI Stroke Charity is always there for stroke survivors, families and healthcare professionals: providing specialist rehabilitation therapy and exercise support after hospital and community physiotherapy finishes.

Petr Piokomy is a qualified specialist personal trainer in stroke and neurological rehabilitation, and has been working in this field for the past 16 years. For the last 7 of those, he's been an associate of the ARNI Institute.
To keep this service running, ARNI relies heavily on donations and a small portion of commission from training sessions. Compared to private neuro rehab centres, ARNI offers a highly affordable and effective alternative - but they need support to keep going.
Here's how Petr is helping:
On Friday, September 25, 2026, ARNI instructor Petr will be taking on 13 Valleys challenge in Lake District in effort to raise awareness and funds for ARNI. This is around 114 miles throughout the national park with over 7,000 metres of elevation gain. This will be the longest and most challenging run he has run and is classed as ''brutal'' difficulty.
This is no small challenge - but it’s nothing compared to what many stroke survivors face every day.
If you can spare anything at all, we'd be be truly grateful for your support. Every donation helps ARNI deliver life-changing rehabilitation to someone who needs it.

New drug given to Aussie father targets blood clots without risk of increasing bleeding ;) You've likely heard about the latest breakthrough involving TBO-309, a novel thrombolytic drug designed to dissolve dangerous blockages in the brain... unlike traditional treatments, this 'Thrombio' medication specifically targets the fibrin structure of a clot.
Aaron Piper, a NSW-based forty year old father has just recovered with this treatment after he began crawling and losing coordination whilst getting his kids ready for school -he was given TBO-309 offers a much safer alternative for survivors. This Australian–made drug is currently paving the way for international trials to ensure it meets strict global safety standards.
Clinical researchers have found that this approach may significantly reduce the risk of intracranial haemorrhage; which is often the biggest danger when using current clot- busting drugs. So, while standard thrombolysis must be administered very quickly, TBO-309 might offer a safer window for more survivors... and it could potentially work alongside mechanical thrombectomy to improve overall outcomes.
The drug is currently moving through rigorous clinical trials to ensure its efficacy and safety profile meet strict medical standards. But this isn't just a minor update; it's a fundamental shift in how we might treat ischaemic events in the emergency room. Although it's still in the testing phase, experts hope it will be available for routine implementation in the UK within the next few years as data matures.
ARNI Stroke Rehab & Recovery says that safer acute treatments are the first vital step in ensuring a better starting point for your long term rehabilitation - and that these pharmaceutical advances are serving to shape the future of stroke survival. 🧪🚑🏥

You can now control a laptop or other tech just by thinking of moving your arm and hand - CorTec’s Brain Interchange system (pictured) is allowing stroke survivors in US trials to operate technology through thought alone.
This fully implanted, wireless device was originally designed to support motor recovery via brain stimulation... but it's now proven it can also decode real-time intent for digital use. In a world first, a participant in the University of Washington’s clinical trial played the video game Pong using only his mind; he achieved this just two hours after being introduced to the concept!
Dr Frank Desiere and his team have utilised identical hardware for both rehabilitation and computer control... which means no extra surgery or equipment was required for the patient. Successfully implanted for a second time in a human study, the system is a closed-loop platform designed to continuously record and interpret neural activity, as well as deliver targeted electrical stimulation to the brain.
It consists of two soft, thin silicon sheets embedded with tiny Air-Ray electrodes sitting on the brain surface rather than penetrating tissue; ensuring long-term safety for the survivor whilst transmitting clear cortical signals. The tech aims to enhance neuroplasticity, helping patients relearn lost functions, such as movement, after a stroke
This tech currently holds an 'FDA Breakthrough Device Designation'... and although it's in the feasibility stage, researchers like Prof Jeffrey Herron believe it could eventually serve various other neurological conditions. While this trial is based in the US, the German company CorTec is working toward routine implementation in the UK and Europe as clinical programmes for paralysis and stroke advance.
ARNI Stroke Rehab & Recovery says that the dual capability of brain stimulation and digital control mean that closed-loop neurotherapies could possibly be moving closer to becoming a standard part of long term recovery in the future (no idea of actually when though tbh!). 🧠💻🖱️

70% of survivors will be left with upper limb difficulties. The Successful Stroke Survivor manual and corresponding online videos contain lots of exercises to help you train your more-affected upper limb. Given that you can be in a seated position, you will not be endangering yourself in terms of balance, leading to a possible fall.
